According to data released by the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC),the ice marine arctic has reached on 21 March, the seasonal maximum extension amounted to 14.91 million km quadrants, a figure lower than the average of 4% (calculated on the three decades from 1981 to 2010) of 15.5 million square kilometers.
The maximum of this year is also the fifth lowest since 1978(the base year of measurements).
